This was the first outing for the Teddybear costume, we called the bear PODGEY for this collection, being a cousin (possibly a very remote one) of PUDSEY bear. The main problem I found was that the costume was too hot, and I could wear my glasses because they steamed up, so I spent the day squinting. However the costume proved very popular with everyone else, lots of positive comments, and even a few cuddles for the bear! Had a great day, staying for 13 hours with a couple of breaks, and was rewarded with a huge collection for Children In Need.

Money Raised: £1000.00
Charity: Cancer Research
Location: Brentford FC v Scunthorpe FC
We had a great day, arriving at Brentford FC at 13:30 ahead of the 15:00 KO, we all met up at the main gates. I’d gone dressed all in Pink as it was a Breast Cancer Awareness event. It was the second outing for the new Pink and White Bloomers I’d bought, and the certainly made quite an impression. We got all the staff to wear Cancer Research ribbons to show their support for the event. The we had the mascot race, and despite having another Cancer Research Mascot, the Brentford mascot was insistent that I join the mascot race. Largely due to my ‘proper’ trainers and their funny feet, I won the race.
The game ended as a draw, and we managed to colect more money from the supporters at both half time and after the game, and as a team we ended up having raised £1000!
Waterloo - Cancer Research

Money Raised: £766.19
Charity: Cancer Research
Location: Waterloo Station
The 11th October was Cancer Research’s flag day, where you could collect anywhere in London (with the exception of 1/2 around Twickenham if it was a match day strangely), and I started collecting at Richmond Station in the morning and then at the end of the rush hour, I travelled up to Waterloo Station. At lunchtime, I wandered down to the South Bank, and during this time, I had my photo taken by Aviva who later that evening projected it up onto the side of the National Theatre. For this they paid £4 to Save The Children, and they also very generously gave £10 for my collection bucket. I then went back to Waterloo Station for the rest of the evening rush hour, and had a busy time with a great figure at the end of the day.

I had a very good morning at Feltham Station, and the amount collected was all in the morning. It showed great promise, however I was taken ill in the afternoon and so missed out on the evening rush hour. I’m hoping to be back at Feltham soon so that I can see how well I can do in a full day there.
Ashford - Cancer Research
Money Raised: £178.00
Charity: Cancer Research
Location: Ashford Station
Ashford Station was amazingly busy in the morning, especially at around 8am, it was impossible to collect even due to the huge number of kids on the station platforms. Despite them giving me some of their change, it was quite a struggle to collect there. During the evening rush hour, it was very quiet for large periods because several trains arrive within a few minutes of each other, and then it’s a long wait for the next batch of trains.

Syon Lane - Cancer Research
Money Raised: £145.00
Charity: Cancer Research
Location: Syon Lane Station
Syon Lane was quite nice in the morning, however again the trains tended to arrive together and then nothing for some time. However in the afternoon it was another matter, the rain poured down so heavily I was soaked to the skin, and when you are only wearing a thin t-shirt, this isn’t ideal. The rain tended to mean that people were more concerned on keeping dry, rather than letting go on an umbrella to find change for me, so the total in the end was quite disappointing.

Chiswick - Cancer Research

Money Raised: £155.25

I was surprised about how busy Chiswick Station was, throughout the morning and afternoon rush hours there was a good flow of people passing through. The afternoon was made even better when I met Dara O’Briain (see photo) and he was generous enough to pose for a photo and also gave a donation to Cancer Research.
Kew Bridge - Cancer Research

Money Raised: £132.00
Charity: Cancer Research
Location: Kew Bridge Station
I can’t say I enjoyed my collection at Kew Bridge Station. The station is really little more than a bridge, and so you find yourself standing more or less on the end of the bridge, which is also on the main road. It seems that people driving and walking past also felt the need to verbally abuse me, despite me simply standing quietly collecting for Cancer Research.

My first collection, and I have to confess I was quite worried about how it would go. I made a fairly simple outfit, with a t-shirt and some smiley face trousers, and wore Sam’s straw hat. I located myself at the top of the stairs, where I thought i was out of the way, and started collecting. It was a great amount in the end, and everyone was very friendly so I was encouraged to first book more days for Save The Children, and then I branched out and booked days for other charities.
